FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who is entitled to ALG I?

As a rule, anyone who registers as unemployed and has been employed with compulsory insurance for a long enough period of time.

Why is there 60 or 67 percent?

If you have a child, the higher benefit rate of 67 percent usually applies.

Why doesn't the calculator use my real net?

For ALG I, a flat-rate performance fee counts, not your normal payout net.

How long is ALG I paid for?

Depending on age and insurance periods, usually between six and 24 months.

Is ALG I taxable?

It is tax-free, but is subject to progression.

How do I calculate my unemployment benefit myself?

The basis is your average gross salary over the last twelve months. This creates a flat-rate performance fee, of which you receive 60 percent without a child or 67 percent with a child.

How does the tax class affect ALG I?

The tax class influences the flat-rate benefit salary and thus the amount of your unemployment benefit.

Will I still receive ALG I after termination?

Mostly yes. However, in the event of self-inflicted unemployment or self-termination, a blocking period of up to twelve weeks can be imposed.
